Adult Testimonials

It is wonderful for parents to give their children the chance to learn an instrument. Lessons are an educational investment and if time is spent in practice at home, skills are learned and an appreciation of music is nurtured which will last a lifetime.

But it is not just children who benefit from having piano or violin lessons!

Adults wanting to learn the piano and deciding to have lessons themselves are brave and rare individuals. Once the initial decision has been taken to arrange lessons and issues such as self-criticism have been put to one side and the pursuit of study and engagement in the instrument is well underway, adults soon begin to realise the joy and satisfaction learning the piano can bring and are glad they made the decision.

Adult learners may find learning and instrument from scratch quite difficult for sure but adults tend to be often highly motivated and meticulous and usually because their own musical taste has already been established they know what sort of music they want to specifically pursue.

Adults deciding to learn the piano are brave because they have tended to convince themselves of all sorts of reasons why they shouldn’t do so and perhaps the fear of failure is too overwhelming. I am sure there are many adults who would either love to learn because they didn’t ever have the opportunity or they did have the opportunity as a child, gave up and regretted giving up at that time.

I am convinced that many adults do not realise how much enjoyment they would experience if they gave it a go.

I always try to go at the pace of the individual and help everyone to feel relaxed, confident and to have a stimulating and interesting experience. When adults are able to attend during the daytime this is often also much easier for me to accommodate.

For those adults reading this and feeling the urge to start piano all I can say is go for it! Give yourself the chance. Just a arrange a few lessons to begin with to see how you feel. Life is too short not to have a go at the things you really do want to do!

I received my violin as a Christmas present in 2011. I had never held a violin before I met Catherine, but I always dreamed of playing one.

The first steps were difficult and frustrating, however Catherine has always been extremely patient and enthusiastic. I think those 2 components, her patience and enthusiasm, helped so much and WE managed to pass grade 1 exam with merit with the first 6 months, and now almost two years later I have moved through grades 2 and 3 and currently preparing for grade 4.

Catherine is also very good at creating this comfortable and supportive environment, which ultimately helps you to move from noises and scratches to something amazing - music...

Catherine is an accomplished and talented musician herself which is invaluable as she is always enthusiastic, taking time to explain technical aspects whilst making it fun and enjoyable. I feel I have improved and fallen in love with the violin all over again, this is in no small part due to Catherine. I consider Catherine a good friend as well as a superb teacher.  Lizzie.
